15/8/2023 0 Comments Yoga to feel Lighter & BrighterSummer Slowdown: Top yoga tips to feel lighter, brighter, calm and peaceful ...It’s summertime! Well... in between the wind and the rain, we’ve had some sunny spells and it sort of resembles something like Summer here in Wales (the garden is grateful at least, it's looking beautifully green!) :) It’s true: I love the Summer. Longer warmer evenings. Picnics in the park. Strolls along the beach. And while the summer months can be jam packed with all the fun things. It can also, at times, feel a little hectic. Whether you’re out and about enjoying summer adventures, taking a pause on some of the regular routine (or a bit of both) this season can sometimes feel a little scattered, and it can be all too easy to forget to make essential time + space for you and your well-being. That’s why I wanted to focus on the idea of taking a moment ‘pause’ - to invite peace & calm into our lives in this season - so we can begin to feel lighter and brighter. In mind, body, and spirit. Pause for calm, relaxing, or peace Pause for fun and laughter Summer (or any time) yoga - Yoga to relax and find your peaceI often need the reminder to pause in my own life so that I can truly slow down and appreciate the wonderful things, even if there are hardships too. My goal has been to pause once a day, every day, over the summer months for at least 30 seconds, and I invite you to do the same. “ Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths. ” - Etty Hillesum Summer Slowdown Yoga for Calm: Breathe with the SeaGetting outdoors, pausing, appreciating nature has proven to help calm the nervous system so take a moment my friend - 🌊 Feel the waves at your feet ✨ Breathe beautiful sea air into your lungs 💙 Feel calm, grounded, peaceful, at ease .. and if you don’t live near the sea or not able to visit the coast anytime soon, take 30 seconds to journey there in your mind .. Summer Slowdown Yoga: Pause & Experience LaughterFind lightness in laughter: Watch or read something that makes you belly laugh today -
Take a little time out, just for you, however that may look to find lightness and laughter in your day: Pause today's run-around. Take a moment. Experience laughter. “The more you laugh, the more you're able to laugh at whatever life brings.” - Swami Gitananda Summer Slowdown Yoga: Pause & Practise Mindful EatingThink back over the last few days and your eating habits. Have you been mindful of what you’ve been eating? .. Have you been paying attention to what's on your plate? Truly paying attention? Or was the TV or radio on in the background? Were you multitasking to also use the time to scroll or check your emails? (no judgement if so, we all do it!) So many of us have endless distractions around us while we’re eating that it’s hard to pay attention to what we’re consuming. Food can just be there to fuel us, something that has to be done, not necessarily savoured. Are you savouring the moment? ... If you’ve practised yoga with me you would have by now heard me talking about ‘awareness’ in yoga. Awareness of sensations, of feelings, of thoughts that arise on and off the mat. Awareness of how we feel in transition from one place to another. And how Yoga truly isn’t all about ‘nailing’ the pose. Yoga is so much more than the physical. The journey is just as important, probably (definitely) even more so than achieving the ‘perfect posture’. So today, perhaps try and bring some awareness to your next meal and find focus with mindful eating - * During your next meal try switching off the radio or the TV * Leave your phone in another room and really pay attention to what you’re eating. * If you’re working, get away from your desk, find a nice quiet place you can eat and enjoy :) Notice what flavours can you pick out? What do textures feel like in your mouth? What does it smell like? Did you know? ... When we eat with distractions, our brain doesn’t properly process what we’re doing, so we can be left unsatisfied and wanting to eat again quickly. If you really tune into what you’re eating, your mind will get a chance to catch up with your stomach! Hopefully you’ll be able to face the afternoon much more relaxed and re-energised too.
